User guide

Study River is a free tool that prints "one page that fits today" and makes recording the results almost effortless. This page explains the daily loop and how your data works — no jargon.

What is the learning record?

A record of when you practiced, what, and how it went. In Study River it accumulates only on your device — nothing is sent to our servers. The record is yours.

The daily loop (3 minutes)

  1. Open Today's page → download the PDF and print it
  2. Work on paper (checking answers on paper is fine)
  3. Next time you open the app, tap the numbers that went wrong (all correct? just press Save)

That's all it takes for tomorrow's page to adjust a little. Too hard today? Tomorrow steps back a bit. Easy for a while? It moves forward a step.

How much recording is enough?

Numbers, not judgments

The numbers are records of a day, not verdicts about a learner. Not "bad at carrying" but "missed two carrying problems yesterday" — Study River's recommendations follow the same idea: they look only at recent results and move one step at a time.

Backing up (taking your data with you)

History tab → Export (JSON) saves your whole record as one file.

Analyzing with an AI (optional)

The exported JSON can be read directly by Claude, ChatGPT or any AI. Hand it the file and try prompts like:

This file is a Study River learning record. Read the recent entries and describe, without labeling the learner, which areas are going well and which have repeated stumbles.

From the last month of records, propose a practice pace for next week. Daily focus time is 15 minutes.

Turn this record into a gentle one-page summary I can show the family.

Put the file in a Claude Project or ChatGPT project to skip re-uploading. And if you don't use an AI at all, Study River still records, summarizes and recommends on its own.

Monthly review (5 minutes)

  1. Skim recent accuracy in the History tab
  2. Export the JSON as a backup
  3. (If you use an AI) ask for a summary with the prompts above
